The Boston Red Sox are a franchise that is rich with winning and success.
So seeing them not in contention for a few years in a row is odd.
From the outside, it looks like the Red Sox do not know which direction they want to go.
Earlier in the offseason, they traded away outfielder Alex Verdugo.
Plus, they have not made any significant additions that will help their team next year.
It appears as if the front office is looking to rebuild the roster.
According to Chris Henrique, the Red Sox have been exploring trade talks with some of the members of their bullpen.
One name that has reportedly come up is Kenley Jansen.
The Red Sox have been exploring trade talks on members of their bullpen to bring back additional controllable pitching, similar to the Alex Verdugo trade package.

If the Red Sox do not plan on being competitive, having a dominant closer is useless.
Instead, the Red Sox might want to trade away Jansen with hopes of adding some younger MLB-ready players or prospects.
The Red Sox have a history of being a franchise that is willing to spend money.
Having to play in the AL East means they must spend money to stay relevant.
Boston has some tough decisions to make about the future of their franchise this offseason.
It will be interesting to see what they decide to do.
Each of the last two seasons the Red Sox have won 78 games.
What they choose to do the rest of this offseason could have a lasting effect on them for the next decade.
Baseball is better when the Red Sox are good.
But, they have some work to do to put themselves back into that category.
