Free agency still has a lot of interesting names as we head to next year.

Yes, Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Sonny Gray, and other top players have signed, but the futures of Blake Snell, Teoscar Hernandez, Shota Imanaga, Jordan Montgomery, and Cody Bellinger, among many others, are still up in the air.

Bellinger, despite some red flags under the hood (mediocre hard-hit rates and others), remains the top hitter available as of Friday.

A number of teams remain interested in bringing him, but his price tag so far has scared off squads.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman via B/R Walk-Off, one organization stands above the rest when it comes to favorites to land the former NL MVP.

Theoretically, Bellinger can help a number of teams.

He still hit .307 with 26 home runs, 97 RBI, and a .881 OPS in 2023.

However, the Chicago Cubs seem to be the best fit for him.

He produced those numbers in a Cubs uniform this past campaign, and looked comfortable there.

It seems to be a win-win signing if it gets done: Bellinger thrived in Chicago this year, and the Cubs were close to making the postseason in large part thanks to him.

With a new manager in Craig Counsell, money to spend, and a top farm system, the Cubs have everything to go for that playoff berth again next year.

They do need Bellinger’s production, though.
