When it comes to your boudoir photos, we keep them as true to you as possible! Although we do touch up and edit a few things here and there, we never go so photoshop-crazy as to change who you are.

I often get asked to remove/reshape different parts of my client’s bodies, and each time I tell them the same thing- that boudoir is about celebrating your body. As it is. Right now, “flaws” and all.

But let me give you a little more information on the ins and outs of our editing process, so you’ll know what to expect out of that aspect of your session!

“But if boudoir is about my body right now, isn’t it counterproductive to edit at all?”

So, yes and no! When we edit, we do not change anything about your body shape itself. Your body is your story, and we don’t change what makes you you. Your legs have carried you through your entire life. Your stomach protects those organs that are so important. Your arms give the best hugs, and your smile? It fills the room with joy. I could go on forever about all of the amazing and incredible things your body has done, but then this blog would be 1000 pages long and ain’t nobody got time for that.

I have spent my entire career focused on making women feel beautiful. Regardless of your shape and size, you are so worthy of self love and empowerment and acceptance and I make sure you know that when you leave my studio.

That being said, there are a few things that we do edit!

One of those things being the lighting and tone of your photos. I photograph using the natural light from our studio (meaning the sunshine that comes through the windows), and sometimes if the sun isn’t cooperating, your raw and unedited photos can be too dark! So with a few tweaks here and there to bring those photos back to life.

We also do things like remove acne, small scars, and bruises. Basically, anything that’s temporary!

When it comes to cellulite and stretch marks, that’s where I draw a line. I do still edit these things, but they’re never removed entirely. The way I describe it is that I edit so you can see yourself the way others see you! When your bestie looks at your juicy peach, they don’t focus on the cellulite. When someone at the pool sees your tummy, they don’t focus on the stretch marks- they see a beautiful woman who is living her best life.

In a world that is so centered around photoshopped beauty that we see in social media, we start looking at our own flaws under a microscope. “Person X doesn’t have crooked teeth, but I do. Person Y has amazing boobs, but I don’t. Person Z has toned legs, but mine jiggle when I walk.” THANKFULLY we are starting to see more inclusive bodies in ads now, but during our formative years, it was all about the perfect-pretty. I know that I grew up comparing myself to everyone else, and it is STILL hard for me to overcome.

Basically, what I’m saying is that everyone has a hyper-critical eye that they turn on themselves. So while I don’t remove things like cellulite and stretch marks, I lighten and smooth them so that it’s not what YOUR eye goes to first. I edit to help you see yourself the way that the world sees you- beautiful, glowing, HOT, and powerful.

We can also edit your photos using photoshop to add a bit of extra somethin’ somethin’ to them, too! We don’t do this for all photos (or even all sessions), but definitely ask about it and we can chat about options.

For example, these two photos! The first before-and-after is from a fantasy-inspired session, so we created a more whimsical set. The second, from a maternity session where we added a gorgeous background (on top of our normal lighting editing)!
