Ex Novo Brewing has officially closed in Portland, and their flagship N. Flint brewpub becomes Lazy Days Brewing this Wednesday, December 20th with a soft opening kickoff for the new startup. When Ex Novo co-owner Joel Gregory relocated to his hometown state of New Mexico prior to the pandemic, the writing was on the wall for their eventual transition to focus on their Albuquerque brewery while seeking a buyer for their two Portland locations, and what was set to be a third location in Hillsboro that recently became a new outpost of Backwoods Brewing.

Lazy Days Brewing is a new startup from four friends who wanted to open a brewery but saw it as a distant dream until they heard that Ex Novo was for sale. The Lazy Days adventure kicks off with the reopening of Ex Novo’s former N. Portland brepwub kitchen (closed for food since April) at 2326 N. Flint Ave., and featuring the release of the Lazy Days collaboration brew, Turning Point Lager, developed with Ex Novo Brewing. The full transition will be completed by the start of the new year.

Lazy Days says to expect vibrant new signage at both the Portland and Ex Novo Beaverton Pizza pub, reflecting Lazy Days' friendly and fun-loving spirit, alongside the introduction of their signature beers. The Portland kitchen reopens with a limited menu, expanding to a full rollout in January 2024. In Beaverton, business continues as usual with a Lazy Days signage makeover and the exciting addition of weekend brunch in the new year.

“We are so excited that this is coming together like it has been,” says Co-Founder, Ryan Still. “The sense of community with our staff and Ex Novo regulars is already happening so organically. It’s really a dream coming to life in real time. We appreciate Ex Novo's contributions to these neighborhoods and the continued support from some amazing customers - and look forward to continuing their legacy.”

Amidst the changes, Lazy Days remains committed to serving, and even brewing, Ex Novo's exceptional beers. Through a contract brewing agreement, Lazy Days will continue producing several Ex Novo Beers, ensuring their availability in the Oregon market.

“We're excited to continue a presence in the NW market through contract brewing, maintaining the same recipes, quality control, and brew system we've been using all along,” adds Ex Novo Owner and Founder, Joel Gregory. "I'm extremely proud of what we've accomplished in Oregon in the past 9+ years - it was a great run, and it took a lot of grit from the team to keep it operational until we could pass the torch to Lazy Days. They will bring these beautiful spaces back to what they're capable of. We wish tons of success to the Lazy Days team and look forward to seeing what they bring to the Oregon brewing scene."

Lazy Days Brewing wants to be your go-to neighbohood brewpub by their stated mission to create a warm, welcoming space where friends and neighbors can come together to savor excellent beer, delicious Detroit-style pizza, and hearty pub fare. Beyond crafting approachable beers and mouth watering dishes, they are dedicated to community-building through special events, empowering their employees, and supporting local initiatives.
