The former Bella Pizza on Alberta will become the new Assembly Brewing

Inner southeast Portland’s authentic Detroit-style pizzeria and brewery Assembly Brewing is opening a second location on Alberta Street joining the upcoming second location of Function PDX in the neighborhood. in northeast Portland. Founded by George Johnson in 2019, Assembly Brewing is possibly the first, and certainly the only black-owned brewery in Oregon.

Set in the former location of Bella Pizza at 2934 NE Alberta Street, in the highly walkable and artsy heart of upper Alberta Street, the new Assembly Brewing will be a little bit different. Famously and resolutely 21+ Assembly Brewing on Foster is changing things up for their second location, for the first time, it will serve its authentic, award-winning Detroit-style pizza fans to all ages (not just to those 21+).

Five pizza by-the-slice options (including one vegan), whole pies, breadsticks and salads are on the menu along with a slice and a beer or fountain drink special. Patrons can dine inside or as weather permits, enjoy the sidewalk tables or the cozy back patio. Food delivery is available.

Assembly Brewing on Alberta is set for an early 2024 opening in January or February, and plans to be open seven days a week, from 11am - 10pm.

Assembly’s approachable craft beer will flow from eight taps. Local cider, wines, and a selection of hand made cocktails and spirits are also available.

“Whether it’s through beer, pizza, a love of sports or perhaps trivia, we’re excited to try a few new things in 2024 and bring together people of all ages,” said George Johnson, owner, brewmaster and chef.

Pizza Highlights:

Johnson crafted the proprietary dough recipe with the assistance of the award-winning pizza chef, Shawn Randazzo, who died in 2020. The Detroit-style stands out from traditional pizza due to its rectangular shape, airy texture, extra thick crust, crispy and caramelized cheese edges. Johnson, who was born and raised in the Detroit area, notes the pizza is one of only a few places on the West Coast that is serving a true-to-style representation, made in-house daily, with quality ingredients.
