This week 13 Rules: Random NBA Thoughts, will look at teams on the rise and give credit where warranted. Teams on the rise include Houston Rockets and the LA Clippers. We’ll also look at teams on the decline. Teams on the decline include the Atlanta Hawks and the Detroit Pistons.

The Boston Celtics lost a tough road game last night to the Golden State Warriors. Though as a team they are on the rise, the Celtics continue to struggle on the road. It’s interesting to note that Boston attempted 58 threes and 56 twos last night. The Warriors are a team that has no rim protector so why didn’t the Celtics go to the basket more. One glaring example of this is at the end of regulation when Boston had the last shot to win the game. Instead of going to the basket and try to make a play Jayson Tatum took a well defended three. A team on a decline is the Detroit Pistons. To understand how bad Detroit is during this long losing streak ask yourself the following question. How many players on Detroit would you offer at least a number one pick for. My count ends after you say Cade Cunningham and Bojan Bogdanovi?. Since Mitchell Robinson was injured the Knick defense has become a problem. Credit Robinson’s for his rim protecting defense. Since his injury the Knicks defensive numbers have declined. The Knicks have allowed 130.5 points per game in those six games. The lack of a rim protector has made them susceptible to the dribble drive. This with a coach named Tom Thibodeau who preaches defense. The Los Angeles Clippers have won eight straight games and are a team on the rise. Kawhi Leonard gets some of the credit here. He has played in 26 games so far this year that is half of the 52 he played all last season. The Clippers have played 26 games which means Kawhi has played every game so far. Kawhi has a player option on his contract for next year. Isn’t it ironic how healthy Kawhi is when he’s playing for a new contract. Btw if he makes first, second or third team All NBA his max contract would be in the Jaylen Brown range. To make All NBA you have to play in at least 65 games. A couple years ago the Atlanta Hawks were the up and coming team having gone to the Eastern Conference Finals. Since then they have a new coach, Quin Snyder.Tthey have been a team on the decline for the last few years and Snyder is not deserving of the blame. The Hawks have become part of the dreaded middle of the road team. If they don’t do something before the trade deadline things won’t change. The Houston Rockets have made great strides this year are are definitely a team on the rise. A great deal of credit goes to Ime Udoka for changing the team’s culture. If the Rockets can get a solid veteran before the trade deadline they could become a tough playoff team that no team wants to face. Two players deserving credit for their work. The first is Derrick White of the Celtics. He has become the glue of the team and deserves a great deal of credit for the Celtics hot start. If you watch the Celtics you rarely see him make a mistake. The other is Jalen Brunson. Brunson scored fifty points last Friday a nice accomplishment. The real accomplishment for Brunson and he deserves a great deal of credit for was that he shot nine for nine from three. thePeachBasket post close
