The recap of the Heat – Utah Jazz game is of mistakes and competitive play. The Heat started the road trip with a win against Golden State. Today’s game against Utah was supposed to be a win. Check out my preview article here of the West Coast trip. It didn’t happen. Utah played tough against the Heat and won the game. Adding insult to injury, Haywood Highsmith looks to have a concussion and Jimmy Butler injured his foot in the third quarter. Could Miami have overlooked the Jazz?
Recap #3: Utah Jazz beat Heat in stats

The Jazz had no outside shooting in this game and just beat Miami with timely layups, jumpers and dunks. A review of the play-by-play doesn’t show any sustained periods of domination by the Jazz. Kelly Olynyk must’ve been hyped to play against his old team because he made his home in the painted area. Jordan Clarkson contributed layups on drives and “Hero of the Game,” Keyonte George.
Utah scored 29 points off of 16 turnovers by the Heat. Bam Adebayo committed four turnovers himself. There was a miscommunication off of a baseline out of bounds play where Tyler Herro curled around the elbow and Jaime Jaquez sailed it over his head. Utah was timely with all of these advantages with their shooting. They also outscored the Heat with their bench players 59-40. Check out the rest of the numbers here from NBA.com.
Recap #2: Adebayo has 19 foul shots
Even though Bam committed four turnovers, he scored 26 points and had 16 rebounds. He took on Lauri Markannen and won. He is a true #1 player, getting calls from the referees with sharp athletic jabs and powerful post moves. Bam is integral to the Heat’s offensive movement and potency. The 19 foul shots were the most he has ever gone to the line. Before George’s and Markannen’s three pointers, the Heat were down by 2 with 2:32 remaining. Bam was giving the Heat a chance to win with his foul shooting. An important key come playoff time.
Recap #1: Heat injuries piled up
Jimmy Butler exited the game in the third quarter with a foot injury. Check out this article here from SI.com on whether Butler might play against the Clippers. Then, Haywood Highsmith collided with Collin Sexton and was carried off the court. Josh Richardson is out, Caleb Martin is out, Kyle Lowry is out. As per the Heat’s announcer Eric Reid, the Heat lead the league in total games missed due to injury. The Heat now head to La La Land to play two games against the Lakers and Clippers. It would’ve been nice to get this one in Utah but that’s how the Heat like it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they won both games in Los Angeles.
