The Premier League wraps up 2023 with a couple of games, including Bournemouth’s visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Andoni Iraola has turned the Cherries into the league’s form side, while Spurs are struggling for both form and fitness as they round off the year.

Can Bournemouth take their unbeaten run into the New Year, or will we see Tottenham bounce back from their midweek defeat?

Bournemouth draw or win double chance @ EVS

Bournemouth went into this weekend’s action having not suffered a defeat across any of their last seven matches. The Cherries have won six of those games and scored at least twice in each of them.

That run is a ringing endorsement of the gamble the south coast club made in the summer. They sacked Gary O’Neil and replaced him with Iraola, hoping to bring about a more progressive style of football.

Bournemouth impressed in flashes early in the campaign but the results didn’t follow. The club kept faith with their boss and they’ve been rewarded with this excellent run, as they chase a place in the top 10.

Spurs have had the opposite trajectory this term, with a red-hot start followed by a poor run of results. Ange Postecoglou’s men have won just three of their last nine matches, with a poor defensive record playing a huge part.

Tottenham have been hit with injuries during that poor run, with as many as 11 players potentially missing out this weekend. The absence of summer signing Micky van de Ven has played a huge part over the last couple of months.

Spurs were level with Chelsea when the Dutchman went off injured. Up to that point, they’d conceded 10 times across 10 and a half games. Spurs went on to lose that clash 4-1 and they’ve conceded 15 times in the eight league games since.

That makes Spurs the perfect foil for Bournemouth this weekend. The Cherries have won their last four away trips and they’ve done so in style, scoring 11 times. They’ll show little fear in this trip to north London and they’ll find plenty of gaps to exploit in the hosts’ backline.

Tottenham were hammered 4-2 by Brighton in midweek in a calamitous showing which saw them concede two penalties. Postecoglou’s side return to action just four days later, knowing Bournemouth head into this clash after playing at home on Boxing Day.

This jaded Spurs side has little room for rotation given their injuries, while Bournemouth are unlikely to be too bothered by fatigue given how well they’re playing. The visitors have won four straight league games, cruising to a 3-0 win over Fulham last time out.

As for Tottenham, they’ve lost three of their last five home matches going into this clash. With Bournemouth showing little fear and some clinical finishing, they can end the year on a high against a Spurs side who could use a winter break.
