Liverpool and Newcastle United have the honour of seeing the Premier League into 2024 as they meet at Anfield on the evening (20:00) of New Year's Day.

The Reds have the chance to strengthen their position at the top of the table and move three points ahead of Aston Villa with a win.

After ending 2023 with two defeats on the spin, Newcastle will be hoping that 2024 can bring them better fortune and a victory on Merseyside could see them rise to seventh.

We've thrown together a 16/1 Bet Builder for you to consider ahead of this clash.

Liverpool vs Newcastle Bet Builder Tips

Darwin Nunez to score anytime Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier to be carded Wataru Endo to commit 1+ fouls

Darwin Nunez to score anytime

While you feel that the most trusted player on the pitch to score in this game would be Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian King's astounding goalscoring record does not add much value to your Bet Builder, which is why we have opted for his team mate Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguayan forward was the man of the hour for the Reds at St James' Park earlier in the season as his two goals in the second-half saw his side come from a goal behind to take all three points.

Nunez is still looking for consistency in front of goal but he has already scored five in the Premier League this term. He was also on the scoresheet last time out in the 2-0 win over Burnley, so he will be feeling confident heading into this one.

Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier to be carded

After a stunning campaign in 2022-23, Newcastle have not been able to hit the same heights this year. They are still doing well in terms of being in and around the top six and fighting for European football again, but it seems as though playing in the Champions League has impacted their intensity in the league.

Right-back Kieran Trippier came out earlier in the week to admit that he has been failing to meet his own standards in games in recent weeks, and with such a key figure for Newcastle not performing at his best, it is understandable to see why they are struggling for form.

They have won just one of their last five in the Premier League and a tough battle at Anfield comes next, which could turn that into one win in six. The Magpies are frustrated right now and we are likely to see this on the pitch on Monday night.

Trippier as picked up five yellow cards already this season and has already served a one-match suspension as a result. He will be tasked with dealing with the likes of Luiz Diaz, Diogo Jota or Darwin Nunez down his side of the pitch, which doesn't bode well for a player low on confidence.

As for Bruno Guimaraes, he does show the aggression and intensity you like to see in a midfield player but sometimes he doesn't know when to dial it back a bit and he can be a bit reckless with his challenges. The Brazilian has himself gone into the book seven times this campaign and he is arguably the most likely Newcastle player to get booked as each match comes around.

Wataru Endo to commit 1+ fouls

Despite their underwhelming performances of late, Newcastle will still believe that they can cause some problems for Liverpool on Monday night. They will look to pounce on the counter-attack and Eddie Howe will demand a lot from his quick attackers, such as Anthony Gordon and Miguel Almiron to set the Magpies away.

This could leave Liverpool midfielder Wataru Endo with a lot of groundwork to do and the Japanese star will have his work cut out for him in trying to cut out any Newcastle counter-attacks.

Endo has often been left exposed by his midfield partners venturing high up the pitch when their is a turnover in possession and sometimes he can be quite rash in his attempts to retrieve the ball. And if he is having to try and keep up with the likes of Gordon and Almiron, he will have a tough task of trying to win the ball back cleanly.
