The Town of Bar Harbor covers parking kiosks with local artist renderings to spice up the Winter. The post creating art in Bar harbor for winter residents appeared first on Saltair Inn.
A few years ago the Town of Bar Harbor added paid parking to all of it’s main streets in the form of parking meters or parking kiosks. There are probably 20 or more parking kiosks stands located around town. During the Winter months, the parking meters are removed for the ease of snow plowing and the kiosks were covered with plywood boxes so visiting guests and local residents would not try to pay for parking. Local artist and resident, Sherry Rassmusen brought a great idea to the parking committee – turn those boring boxes into works of art. They teamed up with ArtWaves, a Bar Harbor visual arts studio which offers art instruction, dance and fitness classes. Local artists, high school students, and non-profit groups all participated to create unique works of art that decorate our streets. It’s almost a shame to remove them in the summer! I recently took a walk through Town to photograph the boxes to share with all of you who visit in the warmer months!
This just confuses me! This is by one of my favorite artists Linda Rowell Kelley! One of my faves! This was right on West Street a block from the inn!
