It’s always fun to visit Seattle during our warmer months, but come winter there are lots of places to stroll on crisp sunny days and take in the splendor that Seattle has to offer.
The iconic Seattle Space Needle, located at the Seattle Center, stands 605 feet tall and can be seen from afar. A visit to the top of the “Needle” come winter will give you great views of the snow covered Olympic and Cascade Mountains. Two levels for viewing, one with glass windows, floor to ceiling and one with glass benches and a glass floor give you great photo opportunities.
Located at the base of the Space Needle, Chihuly Garden & Glass features glass blown exhibits of Seattle native Dale Chihuly.
Dale studied at the University of Washington and went on to study glass blowing in Wisconsin. He established a glass blowing program and taught for more than 10 years. His work is displayed in over 200 museums around and world and you can see some of his works, right here is Seattle. The breathtaking displays inside and out are absolutely gorgeous. The glass garden outside changes with the seasons, so you’ll see something different each time you visit, winter, spring, summer or fall. If your wanting to bring home an exquisite souvenir, that you’ll cherish for the rest of your life be sure and check the gift shop at Chihuly Garden & Glass.
The Seattle Center is also the home of the International Fountain, with 9,000 gallons of recycled water that sprays to synchronized music. With the recent addition of colorful LED lighting it’s specular to see. In the summer months you’ll find children, young and old running in and out of the fountain, cooling their bodies from the summer heat. A perfect place to take a break with coffee in hand, watch the splendor of the fountain and maybe a little people watching too.
A walk around the grounds, you can enjoy beautiful plantings that change with the seasons along with fun metal sculptures, big and bright.
The Seattle Center is one of our favorite places to visit come winter and the best part, no crowds to deal with. We hope you will enjoy your visit too.
