Have you got a friend, partner or family member who plays Magic: The Gathering? Do you have absolutely no clue what to get them because you can’t tell the difference between a Draft Booster, Set Booster or a Collector Booster?

Never fear, because here is our Gameology Magic: The Gathering gift giving guide 2023 edition - some of my own personal favourites as well!

For the beginner...

Starter Kits or Commander Decks

If your recipient is still new to Magic: The Gathering, the best choice is a 2-Player Starter Kit or Commander Deck Set! At Gameology, there are several different sets to choose from, all with two or more commander decks in each! Both the commander decks and 2-Player Starter Set are ready to play straight out of the box and help new players get familiar with the different mechanics. Perfect for those looking to learn the game - also if you gift it to them, they'll likely try and teach you how to play!

We recommend:

Magic The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth Starter Kit Magic Phyrexia All Will Be One Commander Decks (Pair) Magic Starter Kit 2023 Magic Wilds of Eldraine Commander Decks (Pair)

For the intermediate...

Bundles

These bundles are packed with tons of stuff and are the perfect gift for intermediate Magic players. Not only do they contain several Set Boosters, but also foil (shiny!) basic lands, regular lands, a promo card, a spindown life counter, and a reusable storage box! Though the regular bundles are great, if you want to go the extra mile, go with the Gift Edition bundles, everything a normal bundle has, except has an additional Collectors Booster! (I've even added the special edition Compleat Bundle from All Will Be One with artwork you can only get in the Compleat Bundle!

Please note – Newer bundles now have 8x Set Boosters instead of 10x Draft Boosters.

We recommend:

Magic Wilds of Eldraine Bundle Magic The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth Bundle Gift Edition Magic Phyrexia All Will Be One Compleat Bundle

For the seasoned...

Set Booster Boxes

Perhaps your Magic player already has it all. Well, that’s not true because any Magic player knows you can never have enough booster packs. And a booster box, which can contain over 30 individual booster packs, would be a Christmas dream come true.

Imagine the anticipation and mystery of opening a Christmas present, multiplied by 30. No matter how long you’ve played Magic, you still get that feeling, every time you open a pack.

This new set booster box for Dominaria United is designed specifically for those who love to open packs and see what’s inside, also containing cards from Magic’s History in “The List” slot in 1 to 4 packs replacing the token slot!

Some sets of Magic the Gathering such as Commander Masters has only 24 boosters (It was a really special set done by Wizards of the Coast)

We recommend:

Magic Wilds of Eldraine Set Booster Box Magic March of the Machine Set Booster Box
Magic The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth Set Booster Box
Magic Commander Masters Set Booster Box

For the best gift giver...

Collector Booster Boxes

However...if you really want to go all out, there are the vastly more expensive but insanely more valuable Collector Booster Boxes.

These glorious shiny boxes contain 12 collector boosters (4 Collector packs in the Double Masters 2022 and Commander Masters set) which are basically shortcuts to the best cards in the series. Open hundreds of other boosters and you won’t even get close to the cards in this box.

If you go for the Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth Collector Booster, the gift you give, may have a serialized Sol Ring (I wouldn't mind 1.....)

In the newest set, Wilds of Eldraine, inside the Collector Booster Boxes, you have a chance of opening a new type of foiling called "Confetti" with new Anime Inspired Artworks seen below (Good luck!):

We recommend:

Magic Wilds of Eldraine Collector Booster Box Magic Doctor Who Collector Booster Box Magic Double Masters 2022 Collector Booster Box Magic Commander Masters Collector Booster Box Magic The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth Collector Booster Box Magic Doctor Who Collector Booster Box

For everyone...

Single Draft Boosters and Set Boosters

These little packs are the bread and butter of Magic: The Gathering. Priced from $6 and up, they’re perfect for small gifts or stocking stuffers.

We recommend:

Magic Wilds of Eldraine Single Draft Booster Magic March of the Machine Single Draft Booster Magic The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth Single Draft Booster Magic Commander Masters Single Draft Booster Magic Double Masters 2022 Single Draft Booster Magic Dominaria Remastered Single Draft Booster

And Last but not least - specifically designed by Wizards Of The Coast for this holiday season is...

MTG GIFT BUNDLES!!!

With all the customary Bundle goodies, plus special packaging and a Collector Booster, the MTG Gift Bundle is the go-to choice for shoppers looking to purchase a gift for their favorite Magic fan!

A note...

Something to keep in mind for all Magic: The Gathering purchases are the current sets in the Standard mode of play. Certain sets will rotate out each year and if you’re not careful, you could end up giving your recipient cards they won’t be able to use! Since Standard is such a popular way to play Magic, it is always preferable to gift your friend/partner/relative products from the current Standard sets which are (as of writing this):

Wilds of Eldraine March of the Machine: The Aftermath March of the Machine Phyrexia: All Will Be One The Brothers' War Dominaria United Streets of New Capenna Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Innistrad: Crimson Vow Innistrad: Midnight Hunt

And there we have it! Our Magic: The Gathering gift giving guide for 2023! What do you think? Did we miss anything? Got any questions? Let us know in the comments below!
