We were looking for something exciting to do in the build up to Christmas so we headed to Tulley’s to embark on their Mutiny Escape Room. While the weather outside was chilly, the welcome from Ellie was warmer than the log burners nearby. We had the usual walkthrough of the various padlocks and then we were set. We elaborated on previous team names with the BoardGameArrrghs, we seem to be attracted to pirate themed escape rooms!

We entered into a small and darkened room where we watched a backstory video. This was a bit unusual with a man in a white suit being hacked on screen by a pirate. After the monologue the room brightened and we could get going. We worked well as a team once again, but we were all a bit groggy, not from rum sadly but with the remnants of a pre-Christmas cold!
Mutiny was fantastically styled and had a great mix of puzzles to solve. It was one of the best looking rooms I have seen with cool props that worked well. The low level lighting added to the atmosphere, but on occasions was too gloomy and so phone torches needed to come out. I would’ve liked a lantern to carry around instead which would’ve been more thematic and helped to keep our phones in our pockets!

There was mostly a natural progression as we moved from one puzzle to the next but there were some things discovered that needed to be remembered for later. The resident parrot did help us to not dwell on these things for too long and kept us moving at a pace.
It was lucky too, because we only just escaped with about half a minute left to spare. This was certainly a step up in difficulty at the family weight from our previous escape room outing, but we did manage it. There were moments where we split up slightly solving two puzzles at the same time, so having two adults to help with the kids felt like a necessity.

We all thoroughly enjoyed it and it was excellently done. There was nothing too abstract either which I liked. I wouldn’t recommend starting with this room as a family, but a group of adults would be fine. In terms of theme, it was among the best.
We then had a bite to eat before trying Spellcraft… but more about that Escape Room at Tulley’s Farm another day!
