The first word that popped into my mind after I finished this book was “meh“.
I would consider myself a fan of Ana Huang but after reading the 6th book where she uses the same formula once again, it’s hard to find something entirely unique and special about this book.
I will admit that she mixes it up slightly in this book by having Kai be a gentleman but that’s about it. I can easily say that he’s the most stable out of the bunch of male protagonists in the Twisted universe but that might also be why I found him to be slightly boring.
We’re not exactly reading the Twisted books for the “nice”, “normal” love interests, are we?
I really liked Isabella as a character and think her struggles with loneliness as well as feeling behind in life compared to her friends, are easily relatable. Kai comes across as a really flat character compared to Isa, especially when he seems to be able to do everything perfectly.
There wasn’t any buildup to their relationship or any other plotlines to build up the main story, which created a faster pace than I was expecting. I’m not really a fan of how fast their relationship progressed, it made it feel a bit insta-lovey and flat.
I don’t think this was a bad book by any means and as a standalone to a curious reader it might be enjoyable, but compared to Ana Huang’s other books I can sadly only describe it as average.
