Holidays can be a monster.
Giovanni and Beatrice left vampire conspiracies and supernatural adventures for a peaceful family life. But peace only lasts so long for a vampire assassin and an undying scribe.
The death of an old friend leaves Giovanni with a rare opportunity. He knows that Lady Penelope’s library hides more than one rare book, but can he break into her family’s ancestral home without raising the alarm? Giovanni and Beatrice are looking for literary treasure. Other lurking immortals might be searching for a different and more dangerous haul.
Back in Los Angeles, Ben and Tenzin were put in charge of protecting the family. But can two powerful vampires survive the mercurial mood swings of a preteen girl? Ben and Tenzin could be facing the end… of their sanity.
Fangs, Frost, and Folios is a holiday novella and a brand-new adventure for Giovanni and Beatrice, the heroes of the Elemental Mysteries series by eleven-time USA Today best-selling author Elizabeth Hunter.
I need you to read this post and tell me you also have those characters that you love so much and became so invested in that they are friends and not simply figments of an author’s imagination.
I need that because while (to my knowledge) I have never met a vampire in real life, Elizabeth Hunter has routinely surrounded me with an elaborate, eclectic and extensive array of vamps to love and call my own. For over a decade, I’ve explored the luscious and in-depth world that Hunter weaves, full of treasures, passions and mysteries to solve.
But you always remember your first, right? And for me, that’s B and Gio. Revisiting this couple in Fangs, Frost and Folios by Elizabeth Hunter was like a big, warm hug. No longer a naive flirtation in a Houston library, their love is a deep, profound partnership forged through love and time. In my mind, they are off somewhere living a quiet life, short-circuiting technology and maybe building model ships. (Apparently, I was right at least partially.)
But as a beautiful gift to me (personally, obviously), Hunter gives us this beautiful novella where we get to experience this couple again both in their new roles but also in the ones we love them to be. We follow them to England to solve a puzzle three hundred years in the making. And we get to see the passage of time from a vampire’s perspective more acutely.
Indeed, time is the one thing no one can halt – not even an immortal.
Also a bonus, getting to see the softer side of Tenzin and a completely befuddled Ben when dealing with the preteen angst of Sadia…
“Tenzin! Why is there a cow in my garden?”
Giovanni Vecchio…and it’s all wrapped up neatly with a beautiful bow and sent directly to your Kindle or front door.
This story doesn’t disappoint. Shockingly, even though it’s a novella, it also didn’t leave me wanting for more. It was simply the perfect morsel of holiday goodness, a chance to gather ’round the tree with some old friends who will never grow old.
Thank you, Elizabeth. It’s a winner.
