All of these books were chosen as winners for the 2020 calender year. You may have seen some of them on end of year lists. I know I did.
A standout book on this list for me is The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, the second time Whitehead’s novel accomplished that achievement. He has become a favorite author over the years and this is one of the books that made me a fan.
Another novel on this list that I loved was Miracle Creek by Angie Kim. It won the Edgar Award for Best Debut Novel and rightfully so. It is a powerful novel about immigration, parenthood, and betrayal. Kim is a brilliant writer and I can’t wait for her second novel Happiness Falls which hits the shelves in September!
