I will read anything Titanic related. Ever since watching the film as a teen, I’ve been obsessed with every book about the Titanic. I’m not sure what about it gets me: the unsinkable nature, the tragedy of errors, or the already present fear of the ocean. So you know I had to read A Million to One. Keep reading this book review for my full thoughts.

Summary

A thief. An artist. A acrobat. An actress. While Josefa, Emilie, Hinnah, and Violet seemingly don’t have anything in common, they’re united in one goal: stealing the Rubaiyat, a jewel-encrusted book aboard the RMS Titanic that just might be the golden ticket to solving their problems.

But careless mistakes, old grudges, and new romance threaten to jeopardize everything they’ve worked for and put them in incredible danger when tragedy strikes. While the odds of pulling off the heist are slim, the odds of survival are even slimmer . . .

Review

(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

A Million to One summoned me. A queer historical fiction set on the Titanic with a heist? It’s like everything I love all put into one written by one of my favorite authors ever Adiba Jaigirdar. Having loved The Henna Wars and Hani & Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating, I knew I had to read A Million to One. Let’s break down what I loved about this book. First of all, the queer tension and pining was *chef’s kiss*. I love these tender moments you always want to return to. The butterflies in your stomach, the fragile feeling you feel with your heart in your chest.

The relationships that unfold in front of your eyes. At the same time, the friendships and murky alliance was an unexpected, yet enjoyable element. How they don’t trust each other and have to figure out where their loyalty and line in the sand are. With this multiple POV, A Million to One establishes a solid sense of pacing counting down time to sinking, while also showcasing the heist. While I think of all the elements, the heist was the weakest – mostly because the characters stole the show, I enjoyed the element of revenge.

As A Million to One explores motivation, ambition, and greed. What will we, and ultimately our heroines, do for what they want? When they might lose it all, what will be the most important? But, predictably so, I loved the historical fiction setting so much. These flailing and fledgling hopes on the precipice of disaster and I cried! As the time begins to count down and truly slip by, the pit in my stomach only deepened. Find A Million to One on Goodreads, Amazon, Indiebound, Bookshop.org & The Book Depository.
