A motivational roadmap to a vibrant and affirmative life

“By learning to recognize the good in myself, I began to appreciate who I was.”

After finalizing the end of her twenty-six-year, disappointing, miserable marriage, Duncan McLauren finds herself lost, scared, and drained. In hopes of finding inspiration and escaping the sadness, she decides to seek solace at the place she has always felt at home—New Orleans. Little did she know that this time, her trip to the buzzing, colorful city would lead her on a bigger path.

On an evening walk through the French Quarters, McLauren locks eyes with a mysterious stranger. Feeling inexplicably drawn to him, she follows him into a storefront with a sign that reads “Psychic Readings” and later discovers him to be a psychic adviser. Further intrigued and with nothing to lose, she decides to do the tarot card reading with him. This reading, however, became the answer to some of the questions she was looking for and the push she needed to reinvent herself. It also sowed the seed that led to the creation of a twenty-five-day manuscript for others to do the same.

Both transformative and empowering, Owning Your Destiny is a great way to invigorate the spirits of those seeking to reclaim their life and to rediscover their self-worth. McLauren uses her personal experiences and her 25-minute conversation with Silas (the psychic adviser) to tackle a range of personal growth and transformative concepts such as gratitude, faith, love, happiness, meditation, manifestation, the seven phases of belief to eliminate self-doubt, dreams, and many more. Here, she makes readers understand the importance of having a grateful approach toward life and goes on to give examples of the simplest things you can do to have that mindset or perspective on life.

One of the ways she does this is by keeping a gratitude journal. With simple, short sentences such as “I am grateful for my family, friends, job, etc.” and daily affirmation mantras such as “I am fabulous, happy, lucky” to start your day, you’ll begin to appreciate everything around you and about yourself even more. This grateful mindset also helps you fortify your self-worth and resilience. It gives you the power and courage to always forge a new path for yourself, instead of wallowing in self-pity and helplessness.

“You must believe all things are possible, believe in yourself, believe in your abilities, believe in your request, believe that you deserve it, believe that you can have it, and believe in the result.”

McLauren’s writing style is optimistic and positive. And even though her short sentences may sometimes come off as abrupt and formal, each word is purposeful and delivers the intended impact. She makes things clear and easy to understand; it doesn’t matter if it is a novel topic like “Creative Visualization” or a new approach to understanding the art of meditation. Her reassuring message encourages readers to always seek out positivity even in the most negative situation.

Some may find it challenging to let go of the need for tangible evidence to stay positive, “believing is the most important part of manifesting,” but if you are willing to have faith and truly believe the universe has something special for you, it will become easier to find the opportunities meant for you.

Overall, Owning Your Destiny has several fresh and inspiring methods to overcome self-doubt, believe in the unknown, and approach life with unwavering confidence.
