An action-packed survival odyssey in the wild and at war
Extreme World War III Survival Guide follows two Americans who end up stranded on a remote island somewhere in the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. As they grapple with the immediate challenges of survival and the ever-elusive prospect of rescue, an astonishing reality remains concealed from them: the onset of World War III.
Kendra, a dedicated journalist, and Mike, a seasoned political activist, had their return flights home drastically disrupted due to inclement weather conditions. Faced with the uncertainty of when the skies would clear, they find themselves impulsively boarding a chartered small-engine plane, an impromptu decision that takes a tragic turn as the plane crashes, claiming the life of its pilot. The multi-year odyssey to return home begins on a life raft with a dead body in open water.
Following several days adrift at sea, Mike and Kendra’s journey brings them to an island that will unwittingly become their home for an extended period. To their relief, they stumble upon a hidden cache of supplies tucked away inside a cave, offering a glimmer of hope in their struggle for survival. However, their respite is short-lived as the individuals to whom these supplies belong opt for aggression instead of assistance.
As they face the threat of foreign adversaries, Mike and Kendra find themselves compelled to take drastic measures to ensure their survival. With every experience, they begin to realize the harsh truth that in this unpredictable world, their only dependable allies are themselves.
Both a gripping action-adventure story and a unique thought experiment, this novel’s foreseeing of future events is firmly grounded in reality, entirely believable. The storytelling style is bold and distinctive, providing a stage for pondering various aspects of society, government, and potential futures. In their absence, a new world order takes shape, as pointed out: “The establishment of the UWC at the onset of World War III may have been the most pivotal factor in giving it an advantage over the League of Nations or the UN.” While it generally offers an optimistic view of the post-World War III world, it does not shy away from acknowledging potential flaws and refrains from claiming the establishment of a utopian society.
The passage of time within the narrative can sometimes feel abrupt, leaving readers with a sense of sudden transitions. While the details are comprehensive, their delivery is often concentrated, which can be overwhelming at times. However, it also imparts a survival mindset, compelling readers to swiftly grasp essential information, facilitating clear-headed decision-making when necessary.
The valuable nuggets of survival wisdom scattered throughout the story are indeed commendable and warrant greater emphasis. For instance, the observation that “It is always muggy, but they have acclimated to the conditions, which is one advantage to being physically fit” transforms common knowledge like being physically fit is beneficial into tangible context and guidance for survival. The story’s commitment to realism allows readers to wholeheartedly invest in Mike and Kendra’s quest for survival.
This book is tailor-made for survivalists and military enthusiasts. It’s an action-packed, thought-provoking adventure story about two Americans doing anything they can to survive in a world where they’ve become players in a global conflict.
