With town as frantic as the fall of Saigon yesterday, giving all that last minute mullarkey a wide berth seemed a good plan this morning, so I headed up to the marsh.

The strong wind was still blasting across the site from the south west, and most things were keeping low, with groups of Wigeon and Teal huddled in what shelter the channel banks and vegetation could afford.

A Merlin was having a hoot, searing through clouds of panicked Starlings over the outer marsh, and a Great White Egret was stalking about just north of the Sandplant.

A Raven surfed the gusts with ease.

Lapwings and Goldies occasionally rose up before drifting back down to roost.

The north end of Southport Marine Lake was getting a right churning too, but only held the wintering drake Goldeneye, a Great Crested Grebe and resident Little Grebes, bobbing about like corks on the swell.

Thanks to all who continue to read the blog, I hope you still enjoy it.

Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year !
