In the world of travel blogging, where every image speaks a thousand words and captures the essence of diverse experiences, the intersection of technology and creativity takes center stage. I thought it’d be fun to use Meta AI’s new image generator to see what gay travel looks like in the eyes of AI.
Traditionally, storytelling in the gay travel sphere has relied on authentic photography (and way too many selfies), personal anecdotes, and the occasional filter to convey the spirit of exploration. However, as technology continues to evolve, so does our capacity to redefine the visual landscape of digital storytelling. Enter the world of AI image generators, where pixels are shaped by complex algorithms, offering a fresh perspective on how we capture and share our journeys.
Here’s what Meta AI shows with my prompt of a “gay travel blogger exploring the world.”
My thoughts: Pretty generic white hunk/fit guy but wow, these photos are definitely realistic! The prompt delivers four results at a time and the four first results had a somewhat diverse array of landscapes, though not really reflective of the world. The backdrops look a lot like Europe to me—perhaps a North African medina or a back alley in Rome, then something that looks obviously like Venice with a shirtless guy (lol), and maybe even the Cinque Terre.
I guess AI identifies gay travel as a distinctly Italian endeavor. Not entirely surprising, but I don’t think I’d choose Italy as my favorite gay travel destination for solo gay travel.
There were some small odd distortions here and there, but doesn’t look bad to me. How will we ever know what is real anymore?
Let’s try the same prompt but as a cartoon:
