How I talked about King Charles III on German TV!
Oh yes!
Blimey!
Slow down.
Come again!
Yep!
Now at the end of my last article, you might have noticed that I wrote a few lines about the fact that I would be talking about King Charles III.
On German TV.
OMG!
Now I’ve worked with the BBC a few times.
I know, cool or what!
And obviously, this isn’t the first time that I’ve been on German TV!
Or the radio!
Nor is it the first time that I’ve been on LIVE television!
It isn’t even the first time that I’ve met a member of the Royal Family.
It is however, the first time that I’ve ever been to the home-studio of rbb (Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg / Berlin-Brandenburg Broadcasting) TV!
In Berlin!
I usually do interviews / documentaries / talks, etc. on location, rather than in the station itself.
So I was a weeny-bit nervous!
Here’s what happened.
Queen Elizabeth II – What a Life!As you all know, I’m a monarchist to the core and with the passing away of our beloved Queen, the reign of the crown was taken over by her eldest son and child – the then Prince Charles of Wales who will be officially crowned King, on his Coronation on May 6th, 2023.
Keep that for your diary!

So I wasn’t the least surprised when I got a call, a couple of weeks ago.
This call was to enquire whether I would be in town during the State Visit of King Charles to Germany.
Of course, I was!
And then, you know if the press like you, you get more phone calls from other media publications.
And I did!
Get more calls and enquiries!
In fact, I even got a request to be on a new family documentary.
But I had to turn that one down.
Because.
Well.
You know!
Generally, I’m open to many things, so give me a call if you’re interested in Victoria Ade-Genschow aka The British Berliner!

Right, where was I?
Oh yes!
After all the details were hashed out, and a few more phone calls and Emails, all I had to do was turn up on the day!
I’m a professional so we arrived about an hour before I was due to be on set!
And by “we,” I mean my husband – The Music Producer, and I!
I usually have a photographer with me, but since it was just an interview of “just a few minutes,” I brought my husband along instead!
It was a good thing we came early, as there’s a bit of a process!

First, you have to ensure that you’re at the correct building, as there are quite a few!
Then, you make yourself known to the security team, who of course knew that I was coming, but had no idea my husband was too!
Ooops!

Once that hiccup was sorted out, we were asked to sit on the sofa in the public lounge.
Then, an assistant came to pick us up, and we were asked to sit on the sofa in the visitors lounge.
A few minutes later, a lot more people came over to introduce themselves.
It was all a bit of a flurry, hands were shaken, names / positions were flying through the air, and a description once again, of what was to take place.
I was a little nervous so I went to the loo where I had a lovely chat with a lady over shoes, only to discover half an hour later, that she was one of the TV presenters at the studio!

After that, another assistant came over to take me to the make-up room.
I usually wear just, lipstick in my day-to-day however, TV lights are glaring stark, so the make-up that you wear has to be enduringly sufficient to with-stand, not only the studio lights, but the camera itself!
You don’t want to look ghastly in front of millions of viewers!
After that, we were taken to another room where I was fitted with a microphone, that was wired to a small box, that was placed on my back!
Under my dress!
More people came over to ensure that I was comfortable, and then we went to the studio.

There were huge cameras everywhere, around the room, and on the ceiling, so we waited for the advertisement to come on, then I was led to the huge studio desk.
We went over a few things again, and then after the count-down, we began.

I was delighted to be invited to the rbb/ ARD studios (Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg / Berlin-Brandenburg Broadcasting) to talk about King Charles III and his visit to Berlin!
I was interviewed by Sasha Hingst who was very nice.
Phew!
It was the 19:30 evening show, LIVE and in GERMAN,
As a studio guest there’s no auto prompt, so please forgive me if my grammar was all over the place!
Here it is.
