„It’s a Date“ by Nadia Parfan received a Special Mention by the 2023 International Short Film Jury consisting of Editor C?t?lin Cristu?iu, Director and Screenwriter Isabelle Stever and Artist, Director Sky Hopinka.
„Instead of the Parisian parks, we see improvised metal garages. Army road blocks take the place of the Arc de Triomphe. French hotels are substituted with abandoned buildings and a church surrounded by cannons replaces the Basilique de Sacre Coeur. The filmmaker manages to liberate a 1976 farcical short and turn it into something more complex, where the urgency has a reason; it has to do with the war and not with a macho whim, even more so because the Ukrainian soldier on home leave is herself a woman. This year’s special mention goes to Nadia Parfan’s It’s a Date.“
Synopsis: Kyiv in 2022. A car races at breakneck speed through the city at dawn. Filmed from a subjective camera angle in a single unedited shot, this contemporary remake of Claude Lelouch’s film C’etait un rendez-vous captures the emotions in a state of emergency caused by the war.
