What is your favorite social media platform?

Remember the days when there was just Myspace? Oh, how the times have changed! There is now a seemingly unending variety of social media platforms people and businesses can choose from, each offering something different and unique.

Social media is a big part of what we do here at Roundpeg, so we decided to ask the team what their favorite social media platform was and why for both personal and professional reasons. Let us know which one is your favorite!

Sam: Facebook

Look, is Facebook the sexiest and most exciting social media platform out there? No. But the facts are hard to overlook and the fact is that Facebook is still the most popular and most widely used social media platform around. If you want to reach people, grow your audience, and find new customers Facebook is the place to be. Not to mention, for my money, Facebook is the best social media platform for advertising. Over the years we have seen great results in Facebook advertising even with relatively low budgets, making it an especially valuable platform for smaller businesses.

Raven: LinkedIn

As someone who is not so fond of social media, LinkedIn has always been one of my favorite ways to connect to people on a more professional level. Although there are many platforms that are fun and help to pass the time, LinkedIn is a top contender for those looking to boost their personal brand as well as stay connected to an array of communities.

LinkedIn is a no-nonsense, direct, and to-the-point social experience that helps you discover other individuals that align with your passions and goals. I have met many entrepreneurs that inspire me to keep extending my knowledge base while practicing and learning more skills. Not only is LinkedIn the perfect way to meet like-minded people and follow thriving businesses, but you also get to display authenticity and show off your own expertise and skills for potential businesses.

Simon: Instagram

Hardly surprising as a millennial, but Instagram is my favorite social media platform. I mean it, I have an account for just about every interest – a photo blog for my beer obsession and another for my hypebeast tendencies. I even have one for my cats. I do have a personal, but it probably gets the least amount of attention from me.

Instagram is also a great place to play in the business realm. Their new shop feature has reduced the distance between consumer and product, and being a Facebook property their targeted ads are top notch. It’s difficult to think of a business that wouldn’t benefit from creating an Instagram page. Being a photo gallery, there’s no better way (aside from a Roundpeg-built website, of course) to showcase your product photography.

Megan: Instagram

I’m with Simon on this one! I love that I can fill my feed with exactly what I want to see; a healthy dose of inspiring mental health accounts, celebrities, local restaurants, fashion inspiration, and friends and family – and the best part, I can avoid any negative talk or political rants that I don’t want cluttering my feed. In addition, it can be a one-sided relationship – I can follow along with Reese Witherspoon’s life, and she doesn’t necessarily have to return the favor.

Instagram is also the platform of choice for one of the group chats that I’m in. As we have a friend in Spain that’s a part of this group, his cell phone and its texting abilities don’t always play nice with the rest of the groups’ U.S.-based cell service. Our days-long back-and-forth has found its way to Instagram, where we can share funny, supportive, and interesting posts with each other, and then continue to conversation and banter without any international cell service interruptions.

Staci: TikTok

As the social media specialist, it’s my job to surf social media so it’s hard to choose just one as my favorite. However, this probably isn’t a surprise, but my favorite platform at the moment is TikTok. It’s so easy to lose track of time while scrolling through the endless videos! Despite the amount of time spent scrolling, I do feel like my time is spent well when watching these short videos. I follow a lot of accounts that provide tips and tutorials for different software such as Balsamiq, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, and more. Plus, a lot of the accounts I follow also talk about trending topics which helps me with my day-to-day work. I promise there’s more to TikTok than goofy, viral videos.

Lorraine: Pinterest

Seriously, Pinterest! About two years ago I went to a podcast conference and one of the sessions was on Pinterest. There wasn’t another session that interested me so I went. I am so glad I did.  The speaker showed us how to mix personal and business to grow a broader audience. Her results were astounding so I decided to give it a try.

With just a few minutes a week (using Tailwind to schedule ahead of time), I have grown my impressions from a few thousand to more than 100,000/month. The trick is joining groups to connect with the right audience, and yes there is a business audience on Pinterest. It is also my favorite vacation planning tool. So if you want to see examples of my photos or follow tips from the Digital Toolbox, look for me on Pinterest.
