A Hole in One for Diabetes: Golf Club’s Amazing Fundraising Efforts

Walmer and Kingsdown Golf Club have been raising money for the duration of the Captains’ year for the Paula Carr Trust. The Club Captain, Jeff Norton, and Wendy Stone, Lady Captain were delighted with the response from the members regarding the fundraising efforts! 

They began with the Drive In (October 2024), with charging for guesses on how they could hit the ball! 

They had a variety of social events, such as a Quiz Night and a Race Night and have raised money from the Ladies section who helped organise a whole variety of raffles and 100 square events, including a very successful Christmas Hamper raffle supported by the club, raising over £1000! 

They were also well supported by LovetoCater, their catering company, who provided prizes and Mark, who runs the club’s Halfway Hut raised a huge amount of money through his ‘wheelbarrow of booze’ raffle! 

Members have have also shown their support through activities in their own businesses, such as Dan and Toni, from the Rising Sun pub who organised a Christmas Lights event and made a donation from their golf society. 

Phil Lanning, leading The Saturday Boys group, donated £750 from activities completed during the year and another group of Saturday players, also raised a significant amount. 

Jeff and Wendy both played Captain and Lady Captain/Professional Team challenges, where members paid £20 per person, that went to the charity, for the ‘privilege’ of playing with the Club Captains – and often winning! 

They also held a very successful Captains’ Charity Day, which was a golf day where players paid extra to play, bought raffle tickets, paid for extra ‘fun’ activities and this also raised a huge amount of money. 

In total, Walmer and Kingsdown Golf Club raised an amazing £13,802.50 – the charity are incredibly grateful for this donation and will allow us to continue supporting diabetes patients and their families in Kent and Medway.
