Self-Preservation: Strategies for Stress, Compassion Fatigue, and Burnout A Masterclass with Loida Garcia-Febo The Library 2.0 Mental Health and Wellness Series OVERVIEW In today’s challenging and unpredictable environments, many professionals—particularly those in public-facing roles like librarians—are confronted with heightened stress, burnout, and the emotional toll of serving vulnerable or challenging communities. Whether it is navigating political tensions, managing difficult interactions, or working in under-resourced institutions, these stressors can lead to compassion fatigue and burnout. This session will provide practical, results-driven strategies to help participants manage stress, prevent compassion fatigue, and cultivate resilience in the face of adversity. You’ll learn how to stay grounded through mindfulness and boundary-setting techniques--even in very challenging environments. We’ll also explore how to leverage AI-powered wellness tools to monitor stress levels and emotional well-being, and provide personalized self-care recommendations—empowering you to take proactive steps in managing your mental health. By the end of the session, you’ll walk away with a personalized toolkit to manage stress and burnout, reduce compassion fatigue, and utilize AI technology to enhance your well-being. These actionable strategies will help you maintain your professional excellence, stay focused under pressure, and protect your mental health, ensuring you can continue to serve your community with compassion and emotional strength.
