Managing Stress in the Library: Strategies for Library WorkersA Masterclass with Loida Garcia-Febo The Library 2.0 Mental Health and Wellness Series OVERVIEW Library workers often face a variety of stressors such as tight deadlines, high workloads, and other challenges related to providing access to information and services. It is of utmost importance to provide support and strategies to manage stress in the workplace. If these stressors increase, the well-being and effectiveness of the library workers can be seriously affected, which impacts the organization as well. When we implement stress management strategies, library workers can potentially improve their mental health and quality of life. Many experts also highlight how low levels of stress can help to maintain the professionalism and excellence that library workers are known for. All of this benefits both the library and the community it serves. In this Masterclass, Garcia-Febo will provide an overview of how to understand and manage stress and anxiety and prevent burnout in the workplace. She will also share strategies preventing burnout, coping and dealing with difficult situations, and supporting the self-care and work-life balance that will help library workers to manage stress. Attendees will create a personalized Toolkit to help them implement stress-management, anxiety-reduction, and burnout-prevention strategies. This 60-minute training is presented by Library 2.0 and hosted by Loida Garcia-Febo. A handout copy of the presentation slides will be available to all who participate. LOIDA GARCIA-FEBO Loida Garcia-Febo is a Puerto Rican American librarian and International Library Consultant with 25 years of experience as an expert in library services to diverse populations and human rights. President of the American Library Association 2018-2019. Garcia-Febo is worldwide known for her passion about diversity, communities, sustainability, innovation and digital transformation, library workers, library advocacy, wellness for library workers, and new librarians about which she has taught in 44 countries. In her job, she helps libraries, companies and organizations strategize programs, services and strategies in areas related to these topics and many others. Garcia-Febo has a Bachelors in Business Education, Masters in Library and Information Sciences. Garcia-Febo has a long history of service with library associations.
