Games Workshop’s 60-plus-book Black Library series The Horus Heresy may have come to an end recently with the three-part epic The End and the Death by Dan Abnett (Warhammer 40,000: Darktide), but the internecine conflict shows no signs of slowing down. That’s because publisher Cubicle 7 (Wrath & Glory, Imperium Maledictum) has plans for Warhammer The Horus Heresy Roleplaying Game. A press release pegs the release for spring of 2026.
“The Horus Heresy is the founding story of one of gaming and science fiction’s best-loved settings” said Cubicle 7 owner Dominic McDowall in a news release. “The epic scale of the Heresy’s tragic tale is as big as it gets, and the legends your characters forge in the roleplaying game will rival those found in the classics.”
But if you, like me, had your heart set on taking up the picter of a lowly remembrancer (which includes the grimdark future’s version of a journalist, among other creatives and historians), know that the stakes will be a fair bit higher right out of the gate. Also? You’ll start the game out as Legionary Consuls, a type of Space Marines, so get used to calling your fellow players “brother” a lot.
“The game opens with the betrayal at Isstvan — an act of vile treachery that tears the Imperium in two,” Cubicle 7 wrote. “You are thrown straight into the maelstrom as Legionary Consuls leading a rag-tag warfleet fighting desperately for survival — and vengeance. Your first priority is to escape, harried by traitors warp-bent on your destruction. But what then? How will you survive and regroup? How do you overcome the shock of betrayal and keep your forces supplied? Perhaps most importantly – who can you trust?”
Expect multiple core rulebooks and a starter set to go up for pre-order this summer.
