Holiday Travel Made Easier: Here Are Our Tips for a Smoother Journey

By Arielle Dance As the holiday season approaches, whether Thanksgiving, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Year's, or another festive occasion, many of you may be planning trips to reconnect with loved ones and celebrate the season. While these moments bring lots of laughter, joy, and connection, traveling can be uniquely challenging and can cause stress on the body. For people with endometriosis, having a plan and being prepared can be extremely helpful.  Pack all your medications, heating pads, period products, and remedies (Note: If you utilize cannabis for support, know the rules/regulations wherever you’re traveling) Use a rolling suitcase to avoid carrying heavy bags and to lean on while moving around Request a wheelchair at the airport to make it easier to move through large spaces Wear comfortable clothes to avoid pressure on the belly and back Be mindful about the foods you’re consuming and have healthy snacks to maintain energy Consider wearing compression socks for long travel to prevent blood clots Keep your comfort items close (ex: pillow for back support) Consider road trips instead of air travel to allow for regular breaks and comfort Be aware of local hospitals and if your medical insurance is covered where you’re traveling Be aware of the accessibility support available where you’re lodging or in the overall local area Traveling with endometriosis can be unpredictable and sometimes debilitating.
