Don’t trash your business idea out of fear that you can’t cover the startup costs. To get the ball rolling, perhaps you don’t need as much money as you thought – or any at all.

Score, a free business resource association and a partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration, is tackling that fear head on in an upcoming webinar “7 Steps to Starting a Business on a Shoestring Budget.” The free hour-long online event kicks off at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Feb. 13.

“There can definitely be challenges — a lack of funds and expertise, resistance from naysayers, personal doubts, and more,” Candice Stennett, Score’s vice president of marketing, told The Penny Hoarder. “This webinar will help folks meet and beat those challenges.”

To reserve a spot, register using your name, email address and ZIP code on Score’s event page.

Small business expert Steve Strauss is slated to host the event, and as its name suggests, he will break down his advice into seven key steps:

Step 1: The Startup Shoestring Rules Step 2: Choosing the Right Business Step 3: Research and Business Plans Step 4: Legalities and Insurance Step 5: Show Me the Money (Even If You Don’t Have Any) Step 6: Putting in the Foundation Step 7: Grand Opening

Strauss is a small business columnist at USA Today, an attorney and a best-selling author who’s written 17 books, including The Small Business Bible.

If you can’t attend the live webinar, don’t fret. Check the event page shortly after Feb. 13 for a recorded version. One downside of the recording, however, is that you miss out on the opportunity to interact with Strauss.

“Those who attend the live webinar will have the opportunity to ask Steve [Strauss] questions that will be answered during the live Q&A portion,” Stennett said.

The webinar provides a great starting point no matter how new you are to entrepreneurship. When the webinar is over, don’t stop there. To keep up your momentum, Stennett recommends connecting with one of Score’s free business mentors, who are available nationwide.

“Our volunteer mentors can help guide you through the steps needed to successfully launch your business and help you avoid common mistakes,” she said. “They can also help you with your business plan and point you to other local and online resources.”

In addition to free business mentoring and webinars, Score provides entrepreneurs and small business owners with online and in-person workshops, an advice blog, business templates, worksheets and more.

“If you are planning to start a business or even considering it,” Stennett said, “then this is the webinar for you.”
