While there are truly some great hybrid cars out there, not all of them are created equal when it comes to maintenance and repairs. Some of them can be extremely pricey, negating what you’d save at the pump. If you are thinking about buying a hybrid, it’s important to consider all of the long-term expenses as well as the immediate fuel savings. And, if I were you, I’d think twice about buying any of these.
1. Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid

On top of that, replacement parts for this model can sometimes be challenging to find, leading to inflated repair prices.

Software updates for the Malibu’s hybrid system can also be a frequent and costly necessity. Not to mention, some owners report challenges with engine components, such as fuel injectors, which can lead to hefty repair bills.
4. Mercedes A-Class Hybrid
You won’t see me talk poorly about many Mercedes models, but the A-Class Hybrid is awful. Parts for Mercedes vehicles are already expensive, and the hybrid-specific components take that cost to another level. Hybrid battery replacements and repairs for this model can quickly drain your wallet. The car’s advanced infotainment and electronic systems often require specialized technicians, increasing labor costs. Consumer reports also identify frequent issues with the car’s turbocharged engine, which can lead to significant repair expenses.
5. Lexus LS600h
Again, the hybrid battery system is a concern with the Lexus LS600h. It is one of the most expensive batteries to replace in the industry, often costing upwards of $6,000. The LS600h’s air suspension system is another weak point, with repairs and replacements being notably pricey. Due to its complexity, servicing the car requires specialized Lexus-certified technicians, which increases labor costs. Owners have also frequently had issues with the car’s drivetrain, adding to the expense.
Weigh the Costs Before You Commit
There are a lot of positive things about buying a hybrid vehicle. Of course, they are better for the environment and can save you a good deal at the pump. However, those benefits should be weighed against the hefty repair costs you may incur. It may be best to opt for Toyota hybrid cars or other makes and models than those listed here.
