The premise of our podcast is loosely based on Radio Four's “Any Questions.”  Joe Cornish (or Mark Littlejohn)  and I (Tim Parkin) invite a special guest to each show and solicit questions from our subscribers.

In this episode, Tim Parkin and Joe Cornish catch up with Jack Dykinga, fifteen years after they first met him judging Wildlife Photographer of the Year at the National Portrait Gallery. The conversation ranges from the move from large format film to digital, and what's been gained and lost in the translation, to the discipline film imposed and whether today's dynamic range has made photographers lazier; from how texture, colour and a documentarian's instinct for narrative shape his compositions, to the uneasy relationship between conservation photography, beauty and AI. Jack also talks about donating his colour transparency archive to the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, the double lung transplant that gave him a 'second life' twelve years ago, and what, after everything, still makes a photograph worth taking.
