Cape Cod is a quintessential New England destination located in Massachusetts that is known for its stunning coastal beauty, rich history, and charming small towns. This crescent-shaped peninsula is renowned for its pristine beaches, picturesque lighthouses, and quaint towns, each offering unique attractions and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

As a New England native Cape Cod was always where my family spent our summers and it's actually where my husband and I got married in 2021 (full wedding blog post linked here), so naturally it's a pretty special place to me. All that aside though, Cape Cod truly is a magical place. It's the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure because you can spend your days lounging on the sandy shores or by the pool, exploring scenic nature trails surrounded by that crisp salty air, or indulging in fresh seafood at the various restaurants along the coast. There is also a vibrant art scene, tons of historic landmarks, and so many adorable boutiques to go shopping in which all add to its allure.
Whether you’re seeking a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a solo retreat, Cape Cod’s timeless charm and diverse experiences ensure an unforgettable visit.
Here's a summary of what you will find in this Cape Cod Travel Guide in case you want to jump ahead!

Where to Stay in Cape Cod
There are plenty of amazing places to stay in Cape Cod, but without a doubt my favorite place would have to be Wequassett Resort which is ideally located on the Harwich/Chatham line on the shores of Plesant Bay.
Wequassett is the epitome of luxury and charm on Cape Cod with meticilously landscaped grounds, breathtaking views, impeccable service, and top of the line amenities. We stayed in one of their Signature Waterview King rooms and not only are the views stunning, but the room itself is gorgeous. There is plenty of storage and closet space if you're somebody like me that needs to immediately unpack once you arrive and there is a private fire pit and lounge area outside your room.

Did I mention their pet friendly? This is our frenchie, Harwich, who had entirely way to much fun on this trip exploring all of our favorite spots with us. And yes, Harwich, was in fact named after Harwich, Cape Cod.

Wequassett is also an incredible place for weddings and special events if you're looking! My husband and I got married here back in 2021 because we knew without a doubt in our minds after stepping foot onto this property that this was the spot. The event planning team at Wequassett went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect. We actually still keep in touch with them (Kalson and Amy if you see this, your're the best!) and ran into them on our most recent stay here!
For those seeking adventure, Wequassett offers a plethora of activities. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy the Cape Cod National Golf Club, an 18-hole championship course known for its challenging layout and scenic beauty. The resort also features tennis courts, a private beach, and a variety of water sports, including sailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Alternatively, if you're just seeking some R&R you can also relax by the heated pool or indulge in a spa treatment.

I could go on and on about my love for this place, but just know that you're in great hands if you stay here or host an event with them.
Where to Eat in Cape Cod
28 Atlantic
28 Atlantic is located on site at Wequassett and it has become one of our favorite restaurants over the years. The restaurant offers stunning waterfront views and equisitie dishes that are made with locally sourced ingredients. We have dined here about 6 times now and we have never had a bad meal, in fact they've been some of the best meals we've ever had. They're best known for their chef tastings, we recently did the seven course tasting for our anniversary dinner paired with wine and it was UNREAL.

The Sill
The Sill is a cute little spot for breakfast and is also located on site at Wequassett. They have delicious coffee & tons of pastries that are the perfect way to start your monrings.

Ocean House
Located in Dennis Port, Ocean House is a beachfront restaurant known for its elegant ambiance and delectable cuisine. We have been coming here for years and make a point to dine here everytime we take a trip to the Cape. They have an extensive menu with an emphasis on seafood and put very unqiue flairs on all of their dishes. The sunset is also gorgeous from here so be sure to plan your dinner around then if you can!

Stars
We visited Stars at the Chatham Bars Inn for the first time and on our most recent trip and my husband and I were both so impressed. This restaurant offers a farm-to-table menu with a focus on sustainable and locally sourced ingredients. It's a great spot for dinner and to enjoy beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Chatham Filling Station
If you’re looking for a casual and hearty meal, head to the Chatham Filling Station. This diner-style eatery serves up classic American comfort food, from fluffy pancakes to juicy burgers. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxed breakfast or lunch. I urge you however to try the Filling Station Egg Sandwich because it's literally out of this world. It's loaded with bacon jam, avacado, cheese, and tomato on a warm biscuit and I crave it every single time I head home from the Cape until I return again!

Mac's Chatham Fish & Lobster
This spot is usually our first stop in the Cape after a long four hour drive from Connecticut. Mac's in Chatham is known for their fresh local seafood and their overflowing lobster rolls. It's a super laid back atmosphere and whether you’re dining in or taking it to go, this spot never disappoints!

Arnolds Lobster & Clam Bar
No trip to Cape Cod is complete without a visit to Arnolds Lobster & Clam Bar in Eastham. It's been around for years and is a Cape Cod staple. Known for its fresh seafood and laid-back atmosphere, Arnolds is a local favorite. Try their famous lobster roll or fried clams and then head out for a round of mini golf on their on-site course!

Hangar B Eatery
Located at the Chatham Municipal Airport, Hangar B Eatery is a hidden gem offering delicious breakfast and brunch options. Watch planes take off and land while enjoying dishes like Lemon Ricotta Pancakes or a savory Breakfast Burrito.

Things to Do in Cape Cod
Mini Golf at Arnolds
Combine fun and food at Arnolds Lobster & Clam Bar by playing a round of mini golf after your meal. The beautifully landscaped course is perfect for families and adds a playful touch to your visit.

Nature Walks
Cape Cod is home to numerous nature trails and conservation areas, ideal for exploring the region’s natural beauty. Visit the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary or the Cape Cod National Seashore for scenic walks and wildlife spotting.

Beach Days
With over 500 miles of coastline, Cape Cod offers some of the best beaches in New England. Relax on the sandy shores of Nauset Beach, take a dip in the warm waters of Nantucket Sound at Craigville Beach, or explore the dunes at Race Point Beach. For this trip we opted for ultimate ease and relaxation and just lounged out at the private beach that is right at Wequassett which is also full service and pet friendly.

Day Trip to Hyannis
Take a day trip to Hyannis, one of Cape Cod’s largest and most vibrant towns. Visit the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum, stroll along Main Street for shopping and dining, or catch a ferry to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket for an island adventure.
