If you like watching television mystery series, you will be interested to learn of a new subset of viewers that you might belong to. It’s called Sweater Detective and I am a huge fan. The plots are long, and one plot usually lasts the entire season. They take place in locales that are often dark and rainy. One article I read compared the Law and Order type of police procedural as a puzzle that needs solving, to the sweater detective show that weaves several plot lines, and develops characters in their relationship to the one crime that lasts an entire season. The culture and surroundings are as important as anything else. Examples of sweater detective shows are Vera, Shetland, and many of the Scandinavian shows like The Tunnel, The Bridge, Broadchurch, Wallander and Mare of Easttown. They are deep, complex, and enthralling.
