In today’s modern world, there’s no question that you are going to use online marketing strategies to build and grow your network marketing business.
That’s because online marketing—aka digital marketing—is a cost effective, manageable way to reach more people and generate more leads. After all, online platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Google are where people spend a lot of time communicating with others and researching answers to their questions. Therefore, you want to be online to generate interest and attention while also generating tons of qualified prospects to your business.
Your challenge, then, is to create a comprehensive digital marketing strategy and actionable plan that will attract targeted leads that you convert into customers and team members. But, there are many, MANY options when it comes to digital marketing. So, which strategies are the best and most worthwhile for network marketers like you?
Of course, every business is different, but there are several top online marketing strategies that are working well for most network marketers. Here are the ones I recommend as we head into 2023.

1. Publish Videos Regularly to Generate More Leads and Sales
Out of all of the strategies available to you, video marketing is one of the most valuable. There are several reasons for this.
From the consumer side of things, online videos are super popular, both to watch and to share. According to a Wyzowl survey, video is crushing it when it comes to marketing. For example, people consume an average of 19 hours of online video per week! Plus, they are two times as likely to share video than any other type of content, including social media posts and blog posts/articles.

From a business perspective, videos are especially successful. More than 80% of marketers report that videos have helped them to:
- directly increase sales
- generate leads
- increase traffic and brand awareness
- increase understanding of products or services
Also, video builds relationships and boosts your influence, which are essential for prospecting, sales, and leadership. Since people gravitate to those that they know, like, and trust, achieving a personal connection improves your conversion rate.
There are many types of video to incorporate into your marketing and many ways to use it. For example, video can be live, recorded, animated, or even a screen recording. But, I suggest publishing helpful, entertaining videos on YouTube regularly, which is one of my favorite online marketing strategies, as evidenced by my frequent and long-term use of it.
YouTube offers so many benefits, including being the world’s second biggest search engine, which will increase your visibility and reach online. Be intentional about the videos you publish and you’ll attract more targeted, relevant leads.
If you want to grow your business faster, there are plenty of reasons that you should be making videos.
2. Connect with Your Target Market via Social Media
Another way to reach prospects and customers is through social media platforms, although it’s gotten increasingly challenging.
In November 2021, 77% of social media marketers reported that social media marketing had been “somewhat to very effective.” That’s a wide range of effectiveness, but it makes sense since success on social platforms often varies depending on many factors, including platform, budget, audience, industry, content quality, etc.
Whether you use Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, or another platform to communicate with others, it’s important to prioritize the human connection on social media. People are interested in you, not what you sell. On my social accounts, I focus on content that teaches and inspires rather than sells.

Remember that there are many network marketers on social media trying to do the same thing as you are! That’s why it helps to know your market, determine what you want to accomplish, and set out to achieve your goals in a distinctive way that attracts your specific avatar while setting you apart from others. Otherwise, this won’t be an effective marketing strategy.
Here are a few tips to avoid wasting time on social media marketing:
- Choose the platform(s) where your ideal target market spends time
- Identify your business goals for social media marketing
- Set measurable objectives
- Create a content and posting plan that aligns with your business goals
- Analyze and assess your results regularly and adjust your tactics if needed
- Repurpose content across platforms to make it more manageable
Every platform has different demographics, functionality, and content specifications, so focus on one platform to save time. It’s no small effort to create engaging content, interact with followers, build a community, and keep up with the demands of social platforms!

3. Build an Email List for Follow Up
A major factor in your level of success as a network marketer is your follow up, especially if you want to recruit more team members. This is why building an email list is a beneficial strategy in your digital marketing: you have the ability to follow up with leads.
Collecting email addresses from people who have expressed an interest in your brand, products, or services makes it possible to communicate with them regularly. You can contact them directly in the future wherever you want, which is rarely the case with social media or website visitors.
You may view email as “old school” since it’s been around a long time. However, according to Hubspot, email marketing revenue is projected to grow to nearly $18 billion US dollars by 2027 with a return on investment of $36 for every $1 spent. There’s nothing mediocre about that!
With privacy concerns affecting the ability to retarget people via ads, email marketing is still one of the best online marketing strategies for following up. Also, consumers these days are savvy. They are more discerning about who they share contact information with, so if they opt-in to receive email from you, they likely are interested.
And, everyone these days has email that they can check regularly from anywhere. So, email marketing has wide appeal and offers a reliable avenue to check in with your tribe.
As an important content distribution channel, your email list is an asset that you own and that allows you to stay top of mind with relevant prospects. Be prepared, though. Commonplace, unoriginal email newsletters are ineffective. People expect high quality email content that informs, inspires, entertains, or stirs emotions.
4. Create Search Optimized Content that Attracts More Leads
Although they’ve been around a long time, search engine optimization (SEO) and content marketing work together as a proven, effective way to attract new prospects and keep them engaged.
SEO refers to the process of making your online content more search engine friendly so that it’s more visible in search engines, mainly Google since it’s the most popular. When you create blog, podcast, or YouTube video content that is 1) optimized for search algorithms and 2) relevant to your target audience, you improve your chances of ranking higher in search engine results pages (SERPs).
The result of strategic SEO and content marketing is that you attract new prospects who are looking for what you do or sell. Additionally, you entice people already familiar with you to consume more of your content.

Content marketing generates leads, increases legitimacy, and builds trust with those who come in contact with your business. As you share knowledge and stories, you’ll connect with your audience and be perceived as an authority in your field. When this same content is optimized for search, it also contributes to your ranking on SERPs. So, it’s a win-win.
Repurposing your content across multiple channels compounds your results. This is one of the reasons why I have been vlogging and blogging for a while and have recently started a leadership podcast.
While content marketing and SEO are a powerful duo, they require expertise and a big commitment, particularly if you’re working solo. Plus, the results take a while to achieve (usually six months or more). Consider your goals and resources.
The upfront work may seem daunting, but the benefits are long lasting because your online content is always working for you behind the scenes.
5. Invest in Paid Ads for Faster Results
The previous four online marketing strategies I’ve shared are organic, meaning that they didn’t directly cost a fee. Organic marketing takes longer and focuses more on brand awareness as well as fostering a human connection with your desired audience. So, when you want to generate leads faster, consider investing in paid ads if it matches your business goals and budget.
There are plenty of opportunities when it comes to paid ads. Often advertising is “pay per click” or PPC, which means you pay when someone clicks on your ad. Social platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn offer PPC ads as do search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo.
Each of these platforms allow you to target certain audiences based on demographics, interests, behaviors, and more. That’s an advantage since organic marketing strategies are often broader and don’t always reach your intended target market.

You may wonder about the effectiveness of PPC ads, so check out these statistics from SendPulse:
- The ROI for Google ads is $2 for every $1 spent.
- PPC advertising is profitable for 79% of marketers.
- PPC ads increase brand awareness by 80%.
- Users who follow PPC ads are 50% more likely to convert than those using organic search.
Other ideas for paid advertising include sponsored posts, podcast ads, and influencer collaboration. Whatever type of ad you choose, be sure that it makes sense for the demographic you’re targeting and your budget.
By the way, you don’t have to limit yourself to either organic or paid marketing. Feel free to use them together. For example, you may want to promote a blog post or a video on Facebook so that more people see it since organic reach is very low.
Online Marketing Strategies are Only Worthwhile if You Take Action
Whatever methods you use to market your network marketing business, the one aspect I want to emphasize is the importance of taking action. Don’t get caught up in analysis paralysis or worry too much about getting things perfect. As former professional ice hockey player and head coach Wayne Gretsky said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
A good place to start is to identify a target market (aka your “who”) so that you can figure out where they are online and what content interests them. After all, the one thread throughout each one of these digital marketing strategies is content. Video, social media, email, SEO, and even ads rely on content. It’s a matter of connecting to your audience through your content.
