The first-round pick from Houston has struggled with injuries throughout his career. The New Orleans Saints will not be picking up the fifth-year option on DE Payton Turner’s contract, according to multiple reports.

Turner, the Saints’ first-round draft selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, has dealt with a rash of injuries in his first few seasons in the Crescent City. When he has been on the field, he has accumulated 38 total tackles and three sacks in three seasons.
This news doesn’t come as a surprise as Turner will now have to stay on the field and produce if he wants to return with the Saints. Otherwise, New Orleans will look to their younger options at edge rusher or address it in the draft or free agency.
