Ran right out this weekend and saw “Deadpool & Wolverine.” It is a marvelously (no pun intended) entertaining film, provided one has a high tolerance for profanity and quite perverse sexual verbal imagery. That condition to its entertaining nature begins to reveal the deeply cynical nature of the film – a cynicism that runs even deeper as the protagonist literally saves a universe for completely selfish reasons, there is no altruism involved. The box office for the film is huge, revealing a world that shares the film’s cynical view of life. As I watched the film, full of comic book insider references that appealed deeply to my geek soul, I was entertained, but the film left me with a sense of foreboding about the direction of our culture and nation.
