People such as I – reluctant Trump voters – are a well-known phenomenon by now. We are people that find Trump does not come close to our ideal candidate, but he is the best we have, certainly preferable to the alternative, and so we vote for him without much enthusiasm. It’s a little different this time as far as the whole enthusiasm thing is concerned because the alternative is not just a poor choice, but an execrable one. The last two times Trump ran I think we reluctants were a significant portion of the Trump vote and represented one end of the Trump voter spectrum. But this time I think the spectrum is expanded and we are no longer one of the poles – I think that belongs to “the deniable Trump voter” – someone that will vote for Trump, but never admit to it.
