Democrats were forced to postpone the first vote Friday on a controversial measure effectively banning the sale and manufacture of rifles and most other guns in Colorado.

Word is that Senate Democrats won’t start voting on this wildly unconstitutional bill until the end of next week as they work behind closed doors with Gov. Polis to make it more palatable to his liking.

The delay came on the heels of original cosponsor State Sen. Marc Snyder of Manitou Springs withdrawing his support of the measure.

Snyder says he didn’t realize the effective ban on the sale and manufacture of most guns would effectively ban the sale and manufacture of most guns.

Also opposing Senate Bill 3 is the Democrat’s own Majority Whip, Sen. Nick Hinrichsen of Pueblo. Ah Pueblo. That brings back fond memories of recall elections of years past for other contentious gun control measures.

If ultimately passed, it is not expected to stand up in court:

Senate Bill 25-003 bans so-called “specified semiautomatic firearms,” which are defined in the bill as “…a semiautomatic rifle or semiautomatic shotgun with a detachable magazine or a gas-operated semiautomatic handgun with a detachable magazine.” Semi-automatic firearms with detachable magazines have existed for well over a century, and these platforms certainly fit the definition of “in common use” set forth by the District of Columbia V. Heller decision.

Polis is pushing some mealy-mouthed excuses for not being fully on board with this gun control measure.

From the Sun:

He is generally skeptical of policies that target specific models of firearms.

Polis must see that as a loophole for not targeting all our guns.

While Democrats are dragging their feet negotiating behind closed doors with Polis and other uncommitted Democrats for a week, they are most certainly counting on Coloradans who have strongly opposed this unconstitutional and wildly unsafe bill to cool their jets and stop their effective lobbying against it.

Fat chance.
