As I listened to the host’s marvelous interview with Andrew C. McCarthy on the impending NY trial of Donald J Trump, I could feel a trap closing on me. The crimes and charges that Bragg has trumped up stem from Trump’s brief, illicit and gagged affair with a porn star. It is important to bear in mind that Trump’s conduct of the actual affair, while odious, is not the problem here. The charges stem from the accounting used to pay said porn star for her silence on the affair. It is also important to note that to pay someone for their silence is quite common and quite legal. The alleged crime here is a very technical one dealing with how Trump and his various organizations and attorneys moved the money around to make the very legal payments for an entirely legal, if quite salacious, activity.
