O.J. Simpson was a murderer.  The evidence was overwhelming.  His acquittal in the criminal case was jury nullification – based on race.  A decade after that trial I sat on a jury in the same courthouse and witnessed what that trial wrought firsthand.  Murder is a heinous and awful crime, but the real villain of the O.J, Simpson saga is his attorney Johnny Cochran who did not hesitate to turn that case into a racial circus.  Were their racist cops involved?  Yes, there were, but the evidence is and was the evidence.  Their racism notwithstanding – the evidence said O.J. Simpson brutally murdered Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman, but Johnny Cochran turned the trial into a judgement of the racist cops, not the accused.  And thus, we stepped onto a slippery slope.
