We’re now through two days of the Vikings’ official training camp, and getting our first looks at Caleb Banks, Jake Golday, and Charles Demmings.
Of course, all eyes are on the QB competition, and apparently Monday was not a great day to be a Vikings signal-caller. Reports from media attendance suggest that both Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy had shaky days, with Murray coming out slightly ahead of McCarthy yet again.
Personally, I’m taking a lot of pride in not only watching Charles Demmings, but also in not being shocked that he is showing out really well so far this offseason.
Charles Demmings Making Plays During Training Camp

To add some context, take a look at what I had to say about Charles Demmings earlier this offseason.
“In 2026, Demmings will probably have a lighter role, but he will still get snaps. I fully expect Demmings to be the CB4 behind Murphy Jr., Rodgers Sr., and Pierre. This means that Demmings would get a decent little amount of reps on the field. There will also likely be reps for Demmings on special teams as a gunner.
Demmings has all the tools to become a starter one day, and Minnesota got him in the fifth round. Sure, it’s a long shot to predict something as crazy as this, but I don’t think it’s that crazy. When you do this job, you have to choose your hills, and this seems like a nice one to die on.”
With that being said, the recent reports of Charles Demmings in training camp don’t surprise me in the slightest bit,
Per Matthew Coller, Demmings got some more run today with James Pierre still dealing with an injury. While talking to the media recently, Brian Flores mentioned that Demmings has “done a great job.” Tyler Forness of AtoZ Sports noted today that “Charles Demmings just locked up Justin Jefferson on a corner route.” This isn’t the first time he’s gone against Jefferson, as he went against Jefferson on Saturday as well, causing an incompletion. Jefferson reportedly looked for a flag after the play.
Charles Demmings Could Be a Star in Minnesota

As I’ve said before, Charles Demmings is everything that Brian Flores could want in a corner; it’s just that he went to a smaller school and was drafted on day 3, which is why people are just now finding out about him.
Charles Demmings is making plays all over training camp, shocking many fans by how much he has his fingerprints on the Vikings’ first-team defensive success so far during training camp.
If this continues, then the Vikings will have an absolute steal in Charles Demmings. Only time, and a lot of repetition, will tell the whole story.
