Tranquil, joyful vibes are definitely trending. While we tend to be drawn to a lot of blues, tans, and creams in our designs to evoke feelings of calm and content with a few pops of bolder shades interspersed to create interest, there’s one color combo in particular that we are currently crushing on – pink and green. Although in days past pink was associated with little girls or thought of as a more feminine hue, those connotations are in the rear view window. We’ve moved into a new era where today’s generation, regardless of sex or gender, is embracing pink to create a space that exudes peace and happiness. It’s a new neutral – and green is its perfect complementary color. We’re currently working with a couple who opted to saturate the walls of their family room with pink for the perfect backdrop to the rest of space. And believe it or not, it was actually the husband who made the decision to go with this hue. For this project, we are using Pink Harmony by Benjamin Moore for the walls. Its soft, underlying peach tones serve as a cozy neutral to anchor the room’s color palette, which will definitely include a mix of greens. This project is still in the selection phase, but the photo depicts the direction in which we are leaning. Pink and Green Family Room We’re currently working with a couple who opted to saturate the walls of their family room with pink for the perfect backdrop to the rest of space. But don’t just take our word for it. Here’s a peek at a few vignettes from April’s High Point Market where pinks and greens were the star of the show. In each, one color was the anchor for the space, while the other was used to add just the right pop for creating interest to catch the eye. This color palette works together naturally to simultaneously induce serene and cheerful feelings, just like a bouquet of pink roses or peonies. Pink as a Neutral Here, pale shades of pink act as the room’s main neutral tone. We love how the hues were used for the walls, then carried over to the lamps, velvet ottoman, chairs, and pillows bringing a sense of balance to the space. Incorporating greens into the pillows, floral chair, and artwork is the perfect way to accessorize this jewel box. And the flowers are the icing on the cake. When taking in this room overall, we found ourselves smiling because of how much we love the look. Green As the Main Color in a Room This color palette also works when green is the main event and pink is the pop the room needs. While green walls and accessories may be the focus of this vignette, our eyes are definitely drawn to the pink flowers in the print. We saw A LOT of green decor pieces throughout our days at market as we moved from booth to booth. The color was a popular choice for everything from textiles to lamps – it’s on trend, yet timeless. More saturated hues of this color combo also work well together. Here, the bright pink flowers in the artwork perfectly complement the deeper shades of green in the bed frame, vases, wallpaper, and wall paint. When opting for the darker tones, using white as the neutral as done in this vignette helps to brighten and balance the room, preventing it from appearing too heavy. This is a great way to create a cozy and cheery vibe. Using pinks and greens in our designs is nothing new at The Red Shutters. It has long been a favorite color palette of our principal designer, Marina Case. In fact, it was the scheme for her living room when she lived at The Manse in Warwick, New York as shown in these images. “There’s just something about a pink and green palette that simply makes me happy,” says Marina. “It’s tranquil yet joyful at the same time – vibes we can definitely all use in our lives on a daily basis!” Ready to Get Started Transforming Your Space?
