The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro is a dream come true for any gamer who is searching for a game that is packed with not only performance but also features. As a result of the floating keycap design, it is not only aesthetically pleasing but also comfortable to use for typing and gaming. This product is not only pricey, but it also lacks the wireless functionality of its predecessor, and it does not perform as well as its predecessor in terms of implementing the USB passthrough. Despite this, it more than makes up for it by bringing back those macro keys that were previously reserved for them.

Excellent gaming keyboard, the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro. Extremely low delay, and the clicky green switches have very little pre-travel and feel pretty light when pressed, which makes them very responsive. Although these switches don’t always sound and feel the same, there is a straight yellow switch type that we don’t think will have this problem. But overall, the build quality is good. Some of the other features are a USB passthrough and eight specific macro keys that you can change on the keyboard or in the software for changing them.

Pros Cons
+ High-quality construction. Wired-only.
+ Excellent latency. Heavy and big.
+ 8000Hz max polling. Lacks control knob.
+ Six dedicated macros.
+ Shiny keycap legends and per-key backlighting.

If the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro follows any guiding principle, it is the belief that greater quantity or extent is preferable. This keyboard is not a simplified mechanical keyboard or a business keyboard that just provides essential features for a simple user experience. Instead, it is a keyboard that is capable of doing almost any function except playing the game on your behalf.

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro boasts an impressive polling rate, surpassing most competitors. It features dedicated macro and media keys, complementing its full-size layout. Additionally, it provides exceptional comfort, allowing users to forget about its usage for extended periods of up to eight hours. The RGB lighting of the device is extended to encompass the wrist rest area, creating a dazzling visual effect. The BlackWidow V4 Pro has all the desired keyboard features, except for wireless connectivity, which was present in its previous version.

Despite facing strong competition, the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro is capable of competing with the top gaming keyboards and maintaining comparable performance. If you have unique requirements, such as wireless connectivity or customizable actuation, there may be alternative alternatives that are more suitable for your needs. However, currently, this keyboard stands as one of the finest options available.

Build and Design

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro is a big, heavy keyboard that looks like a war station. The wrist rest made it 1.7 x 18.25 x 9.25 inches (HWD), which was so big that I needed a lot of room around me to use it. As a reference, the Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro, which came before it, is half an inch wider. It also weighs 2.40 pounds with the wrist rest attached, which might make gamers who like to bring their computers to LAN parties cringe.

But if you have the space for it, it’s a nice-to-have that you’ll enjoy for almost everything you do on your computer, whether it’s games, messing around in Windows, or even the long hours of fun spreadsheeting you like to do every night after work.

Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro put all of its best technologies into the V4 Pro, and you can tell. Let’s look at the keys: The tops are delicately carved to be concave, which keeps your fingers in place without slipping. Each key cap has bright per-key RGB lighting, and by the way, they are made double-shot, which means that the writing is sealed under a coating that makes it almost impossible to rub off.

Performance

It would take an extraordinary amount of intelligence to be able to fool the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro, which has a polling rate of 8,000 Hz. It is quick, precisely accurate, and simple to use. Considering that the keycaps are textured and concave, they do an excellent job of ensuring that finger tips remain on the keys that we intend to press.

To avoid the sensation of being confined or crowded, they are also spread out. Not only have we used this keyboard for fast-paced gaming, but we’ve also used it for frantic typing, and I haven’t encountered any latency difficulties, missed presses, or other performance-related issues while using it.

The switches struck as particularly impressive, even though this is not unusual for gaming keyboards at a higher price point. The yellow variations, which are marketed as being smooth and silent, were included in the review unit that I tried, and they are, in fact, both of those things. It is only necessary to provide a small amount of pressure for them to operate in a manner that is quite consistent.

More than that, they are a lot quieter than we had anticipated they would be. The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro generates less noise than the majority of mechanical keyboards but still offers a little bit of that delightful clack. This is true regardless of whether the switches themselves or the foam cushioning are responsible for this.

There is a great deal of personalization available, just like with the majority of Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro keyboards. Not only does it come with all of those specialized macro and media keys, but it also contains the Razer Synapse program, which allows for complete customization. You will require the application to fully unlock all of the capabilities of this keyboard, which include remapping and altering the RGB lighting on a key-by-key basis.

Typing and Gaming Experience

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro has in-house mechanical switches made by Razer. These switches can be either Razer Green (clicky) or Razer Yellow (linear). When pressed, Razer Green switches actuate at 1.9mm with 50g of force and have both a tactile bump and an audible click.

On the other hand, Razer Yellow switches actuate at 1.2mm with 45g of force and do not have either a tactile bump or an audible click (Razer includes silicon sound dampeners for additional silence). We are not ashamed to admit that we are fans of loud clicky switches, which is why we asked for a review unit that included Razer Green switches.

According to what was anticipated, the Razer Green switches on the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro were exceptionally loud and had a click that was slightly hollow and plasticky. Even though it does not sound quite as refined as the ASUS ROG Azoth, the case features two layers of interior sound-dampening foam, which did a great job of reducing the amount of ping and reverb that the case produced.

Even though some of the clickiness in keyboards originates from the case rather than the switches, we are big lovers of the obnoxiously loud clickiness that keyboards have. However, this is not necessarily the worst thing that could happen.

Not only does the spacebar on the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro sound and feel marginally more stable than the spacebar on the BlackWidow V3 Pro, but the difference is not significant enough for us to consider it an improvement. The spacebar and larger keys, such as backspace and enter, give out a dull thud rather than a sharp click.

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro, just like its predecessor, makes use of double-shot ABS keycaps that have aesthetically pleasing legends that shine through. It is possible to confuse these keycaps for PBT keycaps at first sight due to their full height, gently textured matte finish, and lack of any distinguishing characteristics.

The keycaps have a nice appearance and feel, but the main question is how well they will hold up over time. The keycaps on my BlackWidow V3 Pro began to show signs of wear after less than six months of regular use, and there is no indication that these keycaps will wear differently.

Reasons To Consider:

Are you a fan of dedicated keys?

Not only have those dedicated keys been returned, but they are also no longer in effect. Having eight macro keys that are dedicated to certain functions, in addition to four media keys and a multi-function roller, enables you to perform a great deal of customization without compromising any of the essential options.

If you are looking for a formidable force!

The Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro is capable of keeping up with anything you can throw at it, even though its polling rate of 8,000 Hz could appear to be excessive given its capabilities.

If you want a display that is dazzling in RGB!

Even though appearances are important, even when it comes to keyboards, the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro features a floating keycap design that allows for a magnificent RGB display. This keyboard is likely to appeal to you if you are interested in RGB lighting.

If you have a limited budget!

There is no easy way to get around the price tag of $229 (about £190 or AU$330). On the other hand, if you are on a tight budget, you should certainly search elsewhere because this keyboard is quite pricey.

If wireless connectivity is required!

Although the Razer BlackWidow V4 Pro has all of the features that the BlackWidow V3 Pro does, it does not have the same wireless connectivity as the BlackWidow V3 Pro. If you are interested in going wireless, there are a lot of excellent solutions available to you.
