Nigeria’s e-commerce sector is evolving as live shopping emerges as a viable alternative to traditional online selling. With social media platforms becoming increasingly unreliable for business transactions, entrepreneurs are looking for solutions that offer both visibility and secure transactions. Enter Auqli, Nigeria’s first live shopping platform, set to launch in April 2025.
Unlike conventional e-commerce platforms, which rely on product listings and checkout pages, Auqli integrates live video selling with instant payment processing, allowing sellers to interact with buyers in real time, demonstrate products, answer questions, and finalize purchases—all within a single ecosystem. The platform also includes interactive chat and reaction features, enabling buyers to comment, ask questions, and react with emojis during live sessions, creating an engaging shopping experience similar to an in-person sale.
“We’re not just adding another online marketplace,” said Odera Joseph Echendu, Chief Executive Officer of Auqli. “This is about redefining how businesses engage with customers, making transactions more direct, interactive, and secure.” For years, Nigerian businesses have relied heavily on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok to market products. However, these platforms were never designed for seamless transactions, leaving sellers to navigate missed messages, abandoned carts, and fluctuating engagement rates. Auqli aims to bridge this gap by offering a structured system that removes the uncertainties of social selling while providing multiple payment options, including mobile money, bank transfers, digital wallets, and cash on delivery.
One of the platform’s key features is its built-in buyer verification system, which reduces the risk of fraudulent transactions. This is particularly significant in Nigeria’s digital marketplace, where sellers frequently deal with fake orders and unresponsive buyers. “Sellers waste valuable time chasing payments and sorting out unreliable orders,” said Paul Jatau, Co-Founder of Auqli. “By integrating verification and instant payment processing, we’re creating a system where sellers can focus on business growth rather than damage control.” The introduction of in-app delivery options further simplifies logistics, allowing sellers to arrange shipments without the complexities of coordinating with third-party delivery services.
Beyond security, Auqli also tackles the challenge of visibility. Many small businesses struggle with the high cost of digital advertising, as social media algorithms often limit organic reach. Unlike traditional e-commerce, which depends on static product listings, Auqli allows sellers to actively engage buyers, showcase their products in real time, and drive instant conversions—all without relying on paid ads. The platform also includes inventory tracking and automated payment reconciliation, providing sellers with the tools needed to efficiently manage their businesses.
“E-commerce shouldn’t be a guessing game,” Echendu explained. “With live shopping, sellers are no longer waiting for customers to find them—they’re taking control, creating an experience that builds trust and drives immediate sales.” As the platform prepares for its official launch, it signals a potential shift in how Nigerian entrepreneurs approach online selling.
