To be eligible, you need to own a qualifying vehicle and have appropriate off-street parking. You can find the full list of eligible vehicles on the government website here.
Last chance single unit properties
If you own a detached, semi-detached, terraced or bungalow property, you will no longer be able to claim the grant after April 1st. There will be a big, last-minute rush as people search for qualified installation firms, so the sooner you schedule a quote, the more likely it is that you will be able to use the discount.
Flat owners will still be able to claim the grant after April 1st, 2022, as will anyone living in rented accommodation. The cost of installing a charge point varies, depending on the model you buy and the company carrying out the service, but it generally costs somewhere between £500 and £1,000.
Any third-party permission that is needed for the work, such as from a managing agent or a freeholder, must be obtained before any work is carried out. So be sure to take this into account before you commit to an installation.

- You’ll enjoy lower running costs compared to using public access points
- A home charger is much more convenient and can fully charge your car in less time
- Using a home charging point could be better for your battery, extending its lifespan
- Your property value could increase your property value as it is not a common feature
