Chase Stokes is revealing a major health scare he went through during his time on the Netflix series Outer Banks.
The 33-year-old actor chatted with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the show’s final season premiere for an interview published on Friday (August 21) and said that he had “so many health issues” from keeping his body in shape for the show.
“Hindsight is 20/20, but I probably, unfortunately, wouldn’t have been around much longer if I didn’t take care of my body, which is a really jarring thought,” he revealed. “At 33, playing a 19-, 20-year-old kid who’s been who he is, I needed to go find myself. I’ve been John B more than I’ve been Chase.”
For Chase, keeping his body in shape for John B was challenging, especially maintaining a look established in the show’s first season when he 27.
Chase revealed that his liver and kidney were failing by the end of Outer Banks
According to the actor, when he left the show, he had multiple organs failing.
“I left that show… My liver was failing, my kidney was failing. I had so many health issues that I had to figure out, and my brain was all out of whack,” he said, adding that his blood tests were showing “alarmingly low” testosterone for his age and he had to undergo transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy.
“It’s been a lot of work to get back to baseline, and it was definitely scary for a little bit,” Chase continued. “It was a really important time for me to get my bearings right versus just go back into work and mask it.”
The final season released on Thursday, August 20 on Netflix and is available to stream now.
