Steven Kolb is stepping down from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
The fashion executive announced his resignation as president and CEO on Friday (September 18), days after a confrontation with PETA protestors at a New York Fashion Week show. He announced his resignation on his Substack, you can read the entirety of the post here.
“Leaving after twenty years is deeply emotional, but I do so proud of what we accomplished together and confident in the CFDA’s future. It has been one of the great privileges of my life to serve this community,” he wrote in his statement.
The decision comes after he went on leave following a viral video showing him getting physical with one of the protestors. The clip showed him leaving his seat and physically intervening with protestors and at one point, he held one down to the ground and placed a hand over her mouth.

CFDA also shared a statement in response to Kolb‘s resignation to their Instagram.
“Steven Kolb has been a dedicated leader and tireless champion of American fashion throughout his more than two decades at the CFDA, including fifteen years as CEO,” they wrote.
The statement continued, “We respect Steven‘s decision to step down and are grateful for his many years of leadership and service to the CFDA and our industry. He leaves our organization well positioned, with a clear mission and dedicated team, to carry out the important work ahead as we look to the future of American fashion.”
