There aren’t a lot of ALA accredited programs that have regularly occurring courses in medical librarianship. As a result, I think is sometimes a skill gap among new librarians that must be addressed if they are interested in medical librarianship.
Come along with me as I discuss the need for librarians to have expert literature search skills, knowledge of the medical information resources, and accessing the full text literature.
This video builds upon an earlier video about what prospective students need to know before going to library school. In that video, I talked about some of the realities of the profession and the importance of understanding the job market before investing in an MLS degree.
My intention is for these two videos to work as a two part series designed to help current and future librarians make informed career decisions. Hopefully they provide both a realistic view of the profession and practical guidance for building blocks of a successful medical library career.
