I love a well-made Aperol Spritz.  It’s easy to make: Over lots of ice add 3 ounces Aperol, 3 ounces chilled Prosecco, a splash or up to 3 ounces of club soda, and a slice of orange for garnish.  Yum.  I read this summer about another refreshing ‘spritz’ type drink that was giving the Aperol Spritz a run for its money, the Hugo Spritz.  It seems that coast to coast, this interloper, the Hugo Spritz, has been the top choice. People are preferring lighter drinks and less alcohol ingestion in general.

I am clearly out of the loop since I’d never heard of the Hugo Spritz.  It is light, floral, and a combination of Prosecco, elderflower liqueur, and sparkling water, usually served in a large wineglass and garnished with a slice of lime and a sprig of mint.  The bottom line for me?  I prefer an Aperol Spritz but I do like the Hugo Spritz as a nice change of pace occasionally.

The Hugo Spritz Recipe:

Lots of ice in an extra- large wine glass

3 ounces chilled Prosecco

2 ounces elderflower liqueur

2-3 ounces sparkling water

Slice of lime and sprig of mint for garnish

Critters, large and small, will be moving back into our warm houses now that fall is coming.  I’ve heard good things about Grandpa Gus’s Repellents. byMATTER Liquid Iron Wrinkle Release Spray gets high marks from reviewers.   Real Simple reviewers report that the spray works well on natural fibers like cotton, linen, and silk blends, the fabrics that wrinkle easily.  Give the wrinkles a few sprays and pull gently and the creases are gone.  The bottle is small enough to fit into a purse or pocket, so it is easy to travel with.  $32.00 for a 3 oz. bottle.

I have not used this new eco-friendly Tide laundry detergent, but Real Simple gives it a thumbs up.  It is made with no added plastic or water, and the outer wrapping you see is a box, not plastic.  The ‘tiles’ are fast-dissolving and clean well. They are compact, and easier to use than liquid detergent. They are easy to travel with and have the original Tide scent.  The packaging is recyclable.  $19.94 for 42 tiles.
